Learn how to use a legal field to request consent from your users with a Smart Form.
Use a Legal field if you want respondents to agree to a legal statement, such as your terms and conditions. Respondents must select a checkbox to confirm that they agree. You can also require respondents to view detailed information and click a button to accept the conditions.
Text, Link Text
The legal statement is split into two sections which are combined to form a single sentence. Using the following examples, the legal statement would be “I have read and agreed to the Terms and Conditions.”
Text: Introductory text (for example: “I have read and agreed to the”).
Link Text: Clickable text that shows the respondent detailed information (for example: “Terms and Conditions”).
Select how the terms and conditions are shown when respondents click the Link Text.
(1) Use one of these options to display a window where the respondent must read and accept the terms and conditions.
Display in iframe
Link to an existing terms and conditions page and present this as part of the form. In the Terms / Agreement URL box, enter the URL for the terms and conditions page.
Enter the terms and conditions instead of linking to an existing page. In the Terms (as HTML) box, enter the terms and conditions. You can use HTML tags to format the text.
Tip You can format the Accept and Decline buttons that appear in the window.
(2) Use the External/New Window option to link to an existing terms and conditions page (on your website, for example) without forcing the respondent to read the conditions or agree with them. In the Terms / Agreement URL box, enter the URL for the terms and conditions page you want to link to. When the respondent clicks the link, the page is shown in a separate browser window.
Enter the data binding for the field. The data binding is used to label and store the information the respondent enters in this field.
Tip For more information on how to name your data bindings, see Assign data bindings.
Enter a short hint to help explain the question. The hint appears below the answer field.
Enter more information to help explain the question. Users can view the info-bubble by hovering over an icon beside the answer field. You can use HTML tags to format the info-bubble content.
